This book is terrific. I have a 90 lbs. dog with severe separation anxiety. He was given up by his prior owners when he was 7 months old because he ate their entire house while they were were at work. I got him home and he ate a door in my house in the 1/2 hour that I left him alone. When crated, he broke his teeth on the steel bars, and would salivate profusely. This book was a tremendous resource. It gave us insight as to the dog's problem and helped my husband and I, step by step, with behavior modification training. After a lot of hard work, our dog is able to handle being home alone and is a truly rewarding pet. |

Great for mild cases!, May 15, 2007 |
Reviewer: Jacquelyn England |
I liked this book a lot, but I did feel it concentrates quite a bit on milder cases of separation anxiety. The detailed explanations of how to tell your dog suffers from separation anxiety are great, as is the information on helping fix milder cases. The section referring to fixing extreme separation anxiety using gradual desensitization is slightly lacking, but other than that - great book. |

Excellent book. The desensitization exercises are very effective and well worth the time it takes to ensure your dog is calm when you leave the house. |

Another good value, get them all., October 1, 2009 |

I have read most, if not all of Patricia McConnell's booklets. These are must-have books for anyone exposed to shelter, or rescue group dogs. Yet, these books are simple enough, that even the serious, regular pet owner can get benefit from as well.
This booklet like the rest, can be appreciated by even those who do NOT have a seperation anxiety(SA)dog. I have not yet had to deal directly with a seperation anxiety dog, but volunteering at the local shelter, it is only a matter of time.
A lot of effort is put into identifing what is, or is not SA. From my viewpoint of a reqular dog owner, I appreciate that! And the how to prevent SA information as well.
I think if you purchased every booklet Patricia ever wrote, you wouldn't be out any more than what a regular obedience class would cost. And SOooo much more information! |

an excellent resource tool, December 24, 2015 |

This book was well written. It was short, to the point, and offered a great amount of excellent information.
Most certainly an excellent tool for any trainer to have available in their tool box as a reference tool towards education or training. |
