Expanded Description:
Some dogs need a little help.
Some dogs are afraid, or excited, or reactive. Dogs that “don’t listen” and “go crazy” don’t live the lives we –- or they –- want.
Fired Up, Frantic, and Freaked Out can change that. Simple steps and an accessible, conversational tone from award-winning, internationally-known trainer Laura VanArendonk Baugh CPDT-KA KPACTP make calming the agitated dog not only possible, but pleasant.
Inside you’ll learn how to:
*Achieve change in short, simple training sessions of a minute or less
*Maximize the effects of natural brain chemistry
*Know when to call in medical help
*“Clean up” unreliable behaviors in both overexcited sport dogs and pets at home
*Recognize how fear, aggression, and excitement are variants of the same root problem
The conversational tone is both informative and fun — very accessible, and it feels like the reader has a consulting trainer standing at her shoulder! Bring your dog from emotional to thoughtful, and enjoy a calmer, more enriched life with your best friend.
I’m loving it! Laura has managed not only to write a clear and incredibly important book, she’s really funny too! Her way of writing, the images in her language, and the diagrams make this book really stand out; there’s no way to misunderstand the concepts she’s presenting. Emelie Johnson Vegh, co-author of Agility Right from the Start

Great Book, March 28, 2013 |
Reviewer: Jo |
This book is great. Just the right balance of writing for both the pet owner and for the behaviourist/trainer. I really enjoyed the writing style and thought the book followed a logical, sensible format throughout that takes you through the different steps. The explanations are well detailed and I particularly liked the fact that the author explains why we see dogs behave the way they do e.g. the biological reasons why dogs simply cannot respond to cues when stressed or excited. The book is imaginative and delivers exactly what it promises. I was nearly put off buying this book by the other review but it bears no resemblance to the book at all. I am glad I went ahead and bought it. I would definately recommend this book to anyone living with, or working with, reactive dogs - both from the point of view of helping an impulsive sports dog think calmly or helping a reactive family pet. |

GREAT TITLE BUT....., March 26, 2013 |
Reviewer: Ron Bevacqua,AA,BA,CPDT |
I truly loved the title to this book that promised much but never delivered . The presentation and arrangement contained in Laura's book reflected little imagination. Laura has wonderful concepts in helping out of control dogs but all of this got lost in her chapters. I would love her do a seminar dvd on this subject and I bet her great talent in working with out of control dogs would shine through. |
