Thank you, Dr. Dunbar!, March 26, 2006 |

This DVD set brought me to tears. Ian Dunbar founded the APDT and is back with a 'State of the Profession' address. I cannot begin to tell readers what his discussion meant to me, especially the points about professionalism that includes positive regard and a nonjudgmental approach towards clients and colleagues. I thank Dr Dunbar for having the courage to say what we most need to hear at this point in time. In my opinion, it is a lack of professionalism among trainers and other animal professionals that is holding companion animals back, even more than variations in methodology.
The International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) was founded on these principles: positive regard and a nonjudgmental approach with tolerance/respect for differences. I envision a bright day for dog trainers and behavior consultants when we are all on the same page: professionalism matters and trainer bashing, or anyone bashing, is not professional. We are supposed to fight against bias not embrace it.
'Give Them a Scalpel...' covers numerous other topics of immediate import to dog professionals. I enjoyed the DVDs thoroughly. They are so filled with insight and bottom-line principles that I was sorry when they ended.

These were the best two DVD's I've ever invested in. It was just a great feeling to know that my instincts have always been right. I've been involved in training dogs for 15 years, but I've experienced a lot of animosity with other trainers. It's either 'my way or the highway'. It was just comforting to know that this is a real problem amongst trainers and it's not very justified. I have read every book available by Dr. Dunbar and I own every video he has produced and I can't begin to tell you how much I have learned from him. I haven't been able to attend his seminars, but I have purchased several from the business that tapes just about all current speakers/lecturers. I loved the DVD. I'll probably watch it everyday! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Dr. Dunbar. |

Worth it!, December 27, 2007 |

I respect Ian Dunbar for what he has done in the field of dog training, but I love the way he opens my eyes to things. He uses humor in a way that it makes things stick in my brain. He is honest and opinionated, and that is what it takes to keep dog training moving forward and not back. |

Always a great speaker, Dr. Dunbar does it again; frank and a little controversial while being funny as usual. A great discussion of training principals and what is based on actual science. The matrix! What a great idea. I'm making my own ASAP. Did you all know about this? Where was I? Will stand the test of time just like Dr. D. |
