Expanded Description:

When dogs growl at other dogs, lunge at people and bark at everything it's often mislabeled as “aggression.” But behavior that looks like aggression is often fear-based and should be treated as such. The appropriate term for this constellation of behaviors is “reactivity.”

This book helps dog owners and trainers to understand the reactive dog and help him change for the better. The process is easy to grasp, and once the changes begin to take shape, owners become so encouraged that improving their dog's behavior suddenly becomes fun and exciting! If your dog can't pay attention to you in public places, doesn't behave like a good member of the family when guests visit, and looses control when other dogs are nearby, this book has a lot to offer.

All training methods and classroom techniques are non-force and based on developing a ‘working relationship’ with your dog. Easy to read and understand, 148 pages, with 68 photographs and graphics to help you improve behavior and solve problems.

This 2009 edition includes more specific examples, and more and better photos to give you a better idea of what to look for and how to handle your reactive dog.
You will learn:
• Easy to read and implement how-to book on fearful and reactive dogs
• Many pictures to illustrate key points
• Originally published in 2004, and revised and expanded in 2009
• How to develop a simple program addressing the stimuli which cause fear

Scaredy Dog addresses a very common issue in pet dogs today. Ali’s user friendly book is chock full of effective ways to work with a reactive dog.

Ali Brown has written a superb book for those owners living with reactive dogs. It is packed with sound advice and easy to implement exercises. The book also addresses the 'why' behind this common behavior and readers will find a very thorough look at this behavior topic.
This book is sure to be a valuable aid for trainers/instructors seeking to help students to better cope with their reactive dogs.

This book has helped me retrain my reactive dog Tuffy and I think it is incredible. I use this book as a workbook and refer to it often. I have taken the tools learned and use them in training other reactive dogs I work with. This book is wonderful!!
Ali has captured the emotions of those of us who have reactive dogs. The dispair, hope and the joy as the retraining process proceeds. Buy it, read it, use it!!!

A Must Read for Anyone with a Reactive Dog, February 23, 2007
Reviewer: Kim
This is one of the best books that I have read! I literally carried this book around with me when it first came out and continually use it for tips and ideas when I need help with my dog. It's good to know that not only is Ali a great dog trainer but she has been through this experience first-hand and knows well the feelings and issues that owners of reactive dogs go through.
I've also had the pleasure of being able to train with Ali in one of her Reactive Classes and I've seen the awesome results that can happen through her training.
I recommend this book to everyone!

I took away from this book a better understanding of leadership and trust with our dogs. Reactive dogs need to trust us in order to have a safety zone in stressful times. She shows you how to build those skills.
Sometimes the book seems to get off topic slighty, but does give support to those of us with reactives dogs. It is important to know you aren't the only one with a dog that behaves this way. She shares the emotions she felt on her journey with her companion. I think anyone with a reactive dog can relate and gain value from it.

Awesome, awesome, awesome!, March 21, 2008
Reviewer: Laura Walker
This book has given me a completely new understanding of reactive dogs in a way that has allowed me to start teaching reactive dog classes with spectacular results. I would highly recommend getting not only this book, but the accompanying video as well for fantastic advice, accompanied by a physiological basis for her methods. Incredible info!

Excellent !, March 31, 2008
Reviewer: Mary Berr
I have both of Ail's books and the DVD. They are all excellent, well written and easy to understand. Ali is so down to earth in her explanations of behavior and learning. All are presented in a very clear manner without making the reader feel hopeless.I highly recommend all of Ali's work! I think that more speakers should contact Ali about who did the video work for her DVD as it is extremely well done. I felt like I was in the seminar. Buy all three of Ali's works and hope that she continues producing more for those of us who have challenging dogs in our lives. Ali is a gem!

Very helpful, January 22, 2009
Reviewer: Michele Ocejo
I found this book very informative and helpful in our journey to rehabilitating our rescue bulldog who is reactive and was having fearful aggression issues. There IS hope! Six months ago I didn't think we would be able to have my family over for the holidays and on CHristmas he greeted everyone happily with NO issues even when my brother-in-law (or who used to cause reactions) got very animated.

wonderfully helpful, June 6, 2009
Reviewer: Shanna Jones
This book has many insightful tips that have helped me with my reactive dog. Ali Brown's method of writing really enabled me to break down my dog's behavior into manageable sessions when I thought I might just be in over my head. It is a very empowering experience to get a handle on an overwhelming situation and start making noticable headway towards a well-behaved, balanced dog. This book touches on the majority of situations that I was having trouble with and is a good starting point for gaining understanding and control.

invaluable, November 16, 2010
Reviewer: Tamara Dormer
As a professional dog trainer, one of the things that is hardest for me to explain to people when working with fearful dogs is to go slowly, as slow as the dog needs. This book not only has several great training ideas to help a reactive dog, but is also explicit in how slow you may need to go to really help the dog. Anyone with a fearful/reactive dog should have this book on their shelf!
