Expanded Description:
This introductory DVD shows the progression of a dog, Parker, and her handler, Christy, who, after attending an Introduction to K9 Nose Work workshop, went home and over the next eight months, put into practice what they learned on that one day. The video diary Christy kept shows the progression of how to play and develop the game. The “Parker videos” are the focal point of the DVD and are supplemented with informative commentary from Ron Gaunt, NACSW co-founder, who describes the subtleties he observes during Parker’s searches. Viewers will come away with an understanding of:
- Getting a dog started in K9 Nose Work
- Common mistakes to avoid
- How to make learning this sport fun for both canine and human partners
- Terms and concepts
The mission of the NACSW is to make the activity of K9 Nose Work safe, fun and fair for every dog and dog lover through the sanctioning of all K9 Nose Work activities, the training of all Certified Nose Work Instructors, and the officiating of all K9 Nose Work Odor Recognition Tests and K9 Nose Work Trials.
What reviewers are saying...
The Midwest Book Review
The Parker Video offers an outstanding survey of a K9 dog team in the making and features K9 dog Parker and Handler Christy, who demonstrate the skills used as a K9 Nose Work workshop presented by professional detection handlers. Christy videotaped some eight months of training: this video provides a fine survey of the process, it includes voice-over commentary and observations by Ron Gaunt, a co-founder of the sport, and teaches interested viewers how to get started in their own K9 Nose Work training. A vivid, informational and fun video, this is a pick for any interested in dog training in general and K9 Nose Work in particular.

This video not only helps beginners but it reminds experienced NW trainers of some very basic but important steps we often forget. Has helped me in my beginner classes and also given me ideas for search sites. |

A Great Introduction!, November 14, 2012 |

The Parker Videos chronicles one dog's beginning in Nose Work. We get to see Parker the Doberman's experiences starting with simple box drills, then progressing to more challenging searches inside, and finally outside. The information is very clear, and well summarized in the video. What I appreciated most is that a person could watch the video, and take away enough information to begin playing with their own dogs at home. Each segment has a title page with important concepts for the handler to keep in mind in setting up and handling the search in increasingly distracting circumstances. I also appreciated that common handler pitfalls were shown, and how to set up for success. The video really gets at the essence of what Nose Work is, a 'hands off' free flowing game for the dog. By allowing the dog to self reward, the dog is motivated to conduct their own search. I would have liked some commentary about the theraputic benefits of this activity for dogs lacking confidence- this is huge! Time after time I have seen really shut down dogs enter classes, and by the third week the dogs are much more confident and relaxed. This video really fills a need, as there are so many people waiting to get started with Nose Work, but may not have access to classes or a workshop. If you are curious about Nose Work BUY THIS VIDEO! |

Great video, Christy was our Nosework instructor. I have a mini schnauzer who adores Nosework. The wonderful thing about NW is you can do the sport anywhere with common things (who doesn't have a couple of boxes and treats for your pooch) This video shows you how to get started and how much FUN it is! You have the visual of how the dog behaves and Christy's training comments plus commentary by Ron who is one of the founders of Nosework! My pooch, Bon and I have been to NW camp and finished all our classes. I watch the video once a week and learn something new each time. Bon's body language is so subtle and you have to work really hard to understand her language. But her nose is always correct! You will cherish this purchase and learn how many ways you and your pooch can have fun. |

A great introduction to the companion event of “Nosework.” Personally, we watch it frequently to supplement and reinforce what we are learning in our nosework class. All of us are having “fun” playing the game of nosework, especially our shibas! ^..^ ^..^ |
