Core Lessons, November 20, 2010 |
Reviewer: dogcatcher |
As time goes on, it's not going to be as easy to hear from the originals directly. This set of 5 DVDs of review of timing, stimulus control, chains covers all the basics and more.
I most appreciate Mr. Bailey's candor when speaking about the politics of operant conditioning; days when it was difficult for the Baileys to work with children because they were animal trainers, the top secret work and commercial animal use.
There is a valuable business planning section at the end, too. |

Well worth the money and time, July 7, 2009 |
Reviewer: Crystal Saling |
Bob Bailey is a pillar of operant training. Just getting to hear his views on training- reinforcement, punishment, lures, fixed action patterns, splitting vs lumping, etc. is practically priceless. I could have done without the funky music and the crazy jungle shirt though! |

A rare opportunity!, October 24, 2006 |
Reviewer: Wes Anderson Indianapolis,IN |
For decades Animal Behavior Enterprises pioneered transferring a laboratory understanding of behavior into practical use. And in many cases ABE, through their own ongoing research, broke new ground. Mr Bailey was a part of that historic effort and is excellent at describing what is critical to novice and expert alike- 'The Fundamentals'.
Just a few of the topics I found interesting:
Early history of Operant Conditioning and insight on BF Skinner's work
Behavior Analysis, Operant, Respondent, Stimulus-Response,Timing,Criteria, Reinforcement
Demos from the famous Chicken Camp
Making reinforcement more salient.
Punishment-an example and view of its limited use.(cautions in using punishment)
Desensitization -balloons and more
How 'click' is NOT an event marker, but the beginning of the 'process' of reinforcement.
The last 34 minutes of the DVD set review how ABE was run as a company with Bob offering tips and examples on business plans, project management, and the overall business philosophy used at ABE, one of the largest and longest running commercial animal training operations in the US. I think the last part of the DVD is a nice bonus, but if you don't have a company the first 4.5 hours are well worth the price. This is truly a rare opportunity to learn from one of the best! |
