Expanded Description:

Dogs? No Problem! People? Yikes!!
Most dog trainers have a strong desire to help dogs learn appropriate behaviors and solve the kinds of problems that most dogs experience or create. It is why they get into the business in the first place and it is what they are trained to do. What is challenging for so many trainers is that their success in working with dogs ultimately depends on the cooperation, understanding and follow-through of the people who bring their dogs to them to be trained. Failure to work with people often leads to failure with the dogs. In The Human Half of Dog Training, author Risë VanFleet draws upon her years of experience of working with people as a child and family psychologist to teach dog trainers how take a collaborative approach with clients to help insure the best possible outcomes for their dogs.

You will learn:
The vital skill of empathic listening so that the trainer truly understands the needs and goals of the client.
How cognitive distortions and resistance can disrupt the trainer/client relationship.
How to work with a family in cases where spouses or children may complicate the trainer/client relationship.
Ways to handle common objections and to get clients to commit to training programs.

What experts are saying about The Human Half of Dog Training
The most gaping hole in the pet dog training literature has finally been filled, and filled with radiant savoire-faire. Risë Van Fleet has hit it out of the park.
Jean Donaldson, Founder, The Academy for Dog Trainers, author of Oh Behave!

Reviewer: Paula Babbicola
This is definitely very useful and not just in the field of dog training. It has changed how I interact with people in any 'business' settings, definitely for the better. It's written in a way that makes you want to read the book in one sitting and learn more! I loved it and consider it a must read for any professional.

The Human Half of Dog Training!, August 23, 2013
Reviewer: Janet Skinner
This book belongs in the library of every dog trainer or behavioral consultant! The dogs are the easy part for most of us, it is the human end of the leash that often stumps us. This book offers tremendous insight into what can often cause that to be the case as well as practical solutions for working cooperatively with even the most difficult clients. Thanks so much to Rise for writing it!

The Human Half of Dog Training, October 31, 2012

WOW, Rise VanFleet has made it make sense for everyone to be able to achieve this client trainer dilemma that has become a problem in this all filled with info world we live in. We feel we can get the answers to anything on the web, and maybe so ! But when choosing how you are going to interact with your clients in the field of dog behavior you best have read this book first. VanFleet has told the real story about how to interact with clients using a listening ear, mind and body as well. Listening has been for me a great skill that I understood so many years ago, if I had wrote this book I wouldn't' change one word, not one. I totally agree because I live it everyday in every way. Great work and congratulations to Rise VanFleet for a wonderful book and a must read for trainers as well as those of us who travel out there to your homes to help you.
