What professionals are saying about Kids and Dogs
As a dog training and behavior professional without human children, I plead guilty to many of the inappropriate assumptions and unrealistic expectations that trainer/author Colleen Pelar describes in her latest work. This book is an invaluable resource for dog aficionados, professional or not, who seek to make relationships between families and their canine companions more successful. Pat Miller, author of The Power of Positive Dog Training
Reading Kids and Dogs is like drinking cool, clean water in the middle of a hot, barren dessert! This clear and helpful book fills a gaping hole in the dog literature -- how professionals in the field can help people trying to raise kids and dogs at the same time. I give it all paws up and a body wag from the shoulders back. Patricia B. McConnell, PhD, CAAB, author of The Other End of the Leash
This book is both fantastic and unique. Every dog trainer, groomer, dog walker, shelter worker, and general dog aficionado who would like to help parents improve the life of a dog living with children should read this book. Dr. Sophia Yin author of Low Stress Handling and How to Behave so Your Dog Behaves
Delving from wide professional experience, Colleen Pelar has made useful contribution to a very important issue: dogs and children cohabitating safely. Dr. Nicholas Dodman author of The Well-Adjusted Dog and The Dog Who Loved Too Much
Colleen Pelar lives the reality. In addition to being training manager of one of the largest dog-training facilities in Virginia, she's a mom busy with her three sons. Colleen is passionate about helping kids develop good relationships with dogs and preventing dog bites to children.

Very well written, October 27, 2010 |
Reviewer: Nick Hof, CPDT-KA |
This book is very well written. I have little experience working with children and since I am a trainer, I realized I had better figure out how to do it. I love that the author covers dogs and their interactions with kids over all ages and really emphasizes the need to help the dog through each of the kids milestones of development.
One of the best aspects of the book are the pictures. The book is printed on high quality gloss paper in full color so the detail is just spectacular.
I highly recommend this book to any professional working with families and plan on purchasing her other book geared towards the family. I am hoping to recommend that to many of my clients. |
