What dog training professionals say about The Dog Trainer’s Resource 2
Sometimes, the journey to becoming a dog trainer seems overwhelming. There is so much to learn— from the business end, to learning theory, to case studies and from dog behavior to human behavior, from private in-home behavior consultations to group classes. A good dog trainer must encompass all parts. The Dog Trainer’s Resource 2, along with The Dog Trainer’s Resource 1, should be on the desk of every dog trainer.
Sue Sternberg, author of Great Dog Adoptions and Successful Dog Adoptions

This new collection of articles from APDT's The Chronicle of the Dog represents the latest thinking on a wide variety of topics of interest to dog trainers ranging from behavioral case-studies, to how to manage the business side of dog training, to dozens of great ideas to try in your classes. All trainers should find this book a valuable resource to help them in their professional development.
Leslie Nelson, author of Really Reliable Recall book and DVD

What reviewers are saying...

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW
“Dog Training is a lucrative business, and "The Dog Trainer's Resource 2: The APDT Chronicle of the Dog Collection" is a solid reference for dog trainers who want an encyclopedia reference available for them. With theories touching upon dog psychology, socialization, and more, it also touches on the business model suggestions for this business. With additional asides on training not just the dog, but the dog owner, "The Dog Trainer's Resource 2" is a must for any dog trainer looking to turn it into business.” James A. Cox

BARK MAGAZINE
“Learn from the best! Dense with cutting-edge information from experts in their respective fields, this collection was gleaned from the APDT Chronicle of the Dog, and everyone – from newcomers to the dog world to those who are long time residents – will find something of interest between its covers. Curious about dogs’ physical and emotional health, developing a dog-training business, or the theories behind current thinking on training and behavior? Is so, you’ll find good information here. As a bonus, this edition includes a detailed bibliography, an aid to your own exploration of the research.” Jo Haraf

DOG WORLD
“The Dog Trainer’s Resource 2, a follow-up to a 2007 collection of articles from the APDT’s Chronicle of the Dog, presents innovative information on topics ranging from new theories in puppy socialization to the role of medications in behavior therapy. Each chapter features articles by authorities, such as the well-known positive reinforcement expert Ian Dunbar, PhD, certified professional dog trainer, and Jim Barry, known for gundog training and ethics. Readers may not totally agree with all the opinions, theories and methodologies presented, but the material is thought-provoking. In the article, “Sibling Rivalry,” author and trainer Daphne Robert-Hamilton explores factors that exacerbate dog-to-dog aggression in a household… As Robert-Hamilton notes, dog training is rife with controversy, and The Dog Trainer’s Resource 2 attempts to present a balance of alternate views. For instance, an article on behavior-modifying drugs is followed by an article on using Bach flower essences in behavior-modification therapy. Readers should not expect the comprehensive presentation they would find in a manual or textbook. Nor is the material intended for novices. Familiarity with behavior, psychology, and terminology are essential to fully appreciate the content. Each article is well-referenced to facilitate additional research. This is the kind of book you may want to read.” Amy Fernandez

A Book To Keep By The Bedside, February 26, 2009
Reviewer: Berri
The book is a compilation of articles on various aspects of dog training. I keep it by my bed to dip into whatever training issue is on my mind. Enlightening and engrossing. It is a well-used reference.

highly recommended, August 27, 2008
Reviewer: Stephanie Wesloh
I found this to be much better than the first Dog Trainer's Resource (please note that this book is not an update, it is a new collection of articles). The previous book was quite focused on the dog training BUSINESS. This book is much more about actual dog training. It has many top trainers with innovative, insightful ideas. Worth reading for any dog trainer.
