Expanded Description:

An illuminated road map to make the road lighter and smoother for individual volunteers and volunteer-group organizers.

Dr. Sheila Boneham’s new book covers the rescue, fostering, and rehoming of all types of companion animals, and focuses on issues that affect individual rescuers, volunteers who work with rescue organizations and shelters, and organizers who run those organizations.

The book is separated into two distinct sections, "People and Policies" and "The Animals". In the first, Boneham discusses all aspects of starting a rescue group, from legalities to finding and working with volunteers. One chapter focuses on financial matters and fund raising; another on getting the word out via the web, networking and publicity. The second section is devoted to bringing the companion animal into the rescue organization, how to manage the animal, and how to locate a new home. Safety, health screening and behavior assessment are emphasized.

Contents include: Getting organized, Volunteers, Finances, Publicity, Managing Animals, Managing Volunteers, Health Screening, Temperament and Behavior Problems, Attracting and Supporting Adopters, Contracts, Follow-up, Forms, Resources.
